For the second year in a row, I am going to participate in National Novel Writing Month (a.k.a. NaNoWriMo). I’m actually not a novelist and I don’t plan on writing a novel (this year). Last year, I finished a non-fiction manuscript for a book I was working on and this year I am going to do the same for another book project that is due in November.
There’s two reasons why NaNoWriMo motivates writers to get their books written:
- Community
- Habit
The community aspect is incredible. Just check out the number of tweets with the hashtag #NaNoWriMo. It’s fun to be on a mission with other authors.
The other reason why NaNoWriMo works is the daily habit of writing.
Write every day–even a little–and you’ll get your book finished.
One of the simplest tools to encourage this habit is a word count chart. Every day I write, I add my word count into my book’s Word Count Chart.
I thought it would fun to create a NaNoWriMo Word Count Chart.
I created one and published it over at entreauthor.com. You can find it here:

Good luck to all those writers out there!
