The purpose of a webpage or a blog post is to:
- Get someone to click on another page/post on your website.
- Get someone to sign up for your email list.
- Get someone to buy your products or books.
The purpose of an email that you send to your email list is to:
- Get someone to visit a page/post on your website.
- Get someone to open the next email you send to your email list.
- Get someone to buy your product or books.
The purpose of a product you sell is to:
- Get someone to visit your website.
- Get someone to sign up for your email list.
- Get someone to read another one of your books or buy another product.
All three work together: page, email, product.
They should not exist independently.
This may seem like common sense, but take a look at any page on your website and ask yourself:
- Will someone on this page click on another page or post?
- Will someone on this page sign up for my email list?
- Will someone on this page buy my book or product?
And in an email:
- Will someone click on a link to visit my website?
- Will someone want to open the next email I send?
- Will someone click on a link to buy my books?
And your books:
- Will someone who has never heard of me, visit my website while reading or after reading my book?
- Will someone go to my website to sign up for my email list while reading or after reading my book?
- Will someone want to read another book I’ve written after they finish reading this one?
I have found that asking these questions especially about my website and emails can lead to small but significant improvements.
