How do we make Catholic theology appealing to young people who have grown up in a digital world?
This generation of children and teenagers are sometimes referred to as the iGeneration or iGen because they are growing up in a world dominated by iPhones and other smartphones, digital media, and technology.
So, I had an idea to try to appeal to the iGeneration:
Theology + Emojis = Theoloji 101
Theoloji 101 is a new way of learning and teaching theology especially to the generation of digital-minded young people. Using a wide range of emojis, kids will learn the basics of Catholic theology.
Topics include:
🤔 Does God exist?
👋 Divine Revelation 101
📖 Bible 101
☘️ Trinity 101
✝️ Christology 101
🕊 Holy Spirit 101
I will be sharing sections of the Theoloji 101 on Twitter: @theoloji101.
Then I will compile each Theoloji 101 lesson into a book and other resources.
Oh, and by the way…
I will be writing all of Theoloji 101 with an iPhone instead of a computer keyboard.
Why?
Because kids read and communicate on phone-sized keyboards more than computers. I want to be in their frame of mind while I try to write these succinct lessons with emojis.
Here is where the idea all began:
