We walked out of the aquarium yesterday with some hungry kids. There were a few food options around to choose from, but we only had one meaningful anecdote to share about one of the options. Bar Louie is known for their tater tots. I know it doesn’t seem significant. We didn’t even order the loaded tots once we got there, but one of the reasons why we picked that restaurant from among the others is that we knew at least something about the food there.
What is the thing you are known for?
When people pick you and your products or books or services among many others, what is the one thing they have heard about you or experienced briefly for themselves?
For example, “his stuff is really practical” is the thing people say the most about the resources I create and books I write.
Practical is the thing I’m known for.
Other people who create similar resources or write similar books might be known for being inspirational, interactive, age-specific, good for a certain type of subject area, etc.
It’s okay if you focus on a lot of other things. It is important, however, to recognize that people are only going to know and remember you for one thing at first and even after they become fans they are only going to be able to articulate one meaningful thing about you to others.
