How Tim Ferris Connected with Influencers When Nobody Knew Who He Was

By Jared Dees

How to propel your personal brand with@timferriss Listen to Episode 41 by going to: https://foundr.com/podcast-with-nathan-chan/

A post shared by Young Entrepreneur Magazine (@foundr) on Jul 18, 2018 at 12:42am PDT

Tim Ferriss’s short explanation of how he launched his first book is helpful, universal advice for any author and artist.

Here is the process he followed in the form of questions:

  1. Who is my audience?
  2. Who is the segment of the audience that will be a domino to tell many others about my work?
  3. Where are they going?
  4. Who are the thought leaders of this group?
  5. What is the least crowded channel to connect with them?

That last question is what distinguished Ferriss’s early career. Instead of emailing or calling influencers, he went to the SXSW conference and met the online influencers face-to-face.

Here are some channels where you can connect with influencers:

  • Email
  • Phone
  • Facebook Messages
  • Instagram DM
  • Twitter DM
  • Conferences
  • Social Media Comments
  • Online Courses

Find a channel where there isn’t a lot of noise and try to get through to people who lead the audience you want to serve.
