If you are trying to grow a platform online, try this marketing visualization exercise:
Imagine you are on stage in a room full of people that you would like to reach.
To this audience, you say:
“Everyone pull out your phones and go to ______.”
“Search for ______ and subscribe (follow me).”
“You will get _____.”
It’s that last sentence that is really important. When you focus your efforts on any platform, you need to be able to tell people exactly what they can expect by following/subscribing.
Here are some personal examples for what I’m trying to do right now:
The Religion Teacher
Audience: Religious Educators
“Everyone pull out your phones and go to www.thereligionteacher.com.”
“Subscribe to the email list in the sidebar”
“You will get weekly lesson planning ideas plus practical and inspirational resources to help you teach young people how to grow in their faith.”
Instagram: @jareddees
Audience: Parents (specifically Christian Parents)
“Everyone pull out your phones and go to Instagram (if you have it).”
“Search for jareddees and follow me.”
“You will get a daily reflection and prayer to help you in your journey as a parent. I also share some of the things I’m learning as a dad and a new writer of children’s books.”
