This Week’s Work
Summer is in full swing, which means I am . . .
1. Professor Dees
I am teaching a course on Teaching Religion in Catholic Schools to first hear ACE teachers at the University of Notre Dame. I am so impressed with these future teachers. They are passionate and dedicated and incredibly smart.
The course is a combination of theology and pedagogy, but I lean towards the practical ways to teach religion.
In week 1, I introduced the concepts of evangelization and catechesis and asked them to focus on ways they could bring the “good news” to the lives of their students beyond the curriculum.
In week 2 we focused on Scripture. The teachers worked on effective ways to teach the Bible beyond just reading and presenting, but also practice activities, prayers, and proof (assessment).
Next we will focus on the Creed and they will begin to plan out their courses for the year.
I love the class, but I forgot how much grading there is even with the help of TAs!
2. Dad Dees
Most of my mornings are dedicated to the kids’ activities. I’ve spent a lot of time in the van driving them to and from practices. As the craziness of morning camps beings to wind down, we will do some fun activities together before the babysitter arrives to watch my younger kids.
3. Coach Dees
I’m preparing for the beginning of our first high school girls flag football program next month. For now I am still going through the onboarding process with the school and the diocese. I can’t wait to get out there on the field for some fun and fundamentals with this very first team for the school.
