The Purpose of the Morning Preview

By Jared Dees

I have a long checklist of things to do immediately when I wake up in the morning during my Morning Preview, but when you break it down to its most basic elements, the purpose is waking myself up with a reminder of my priorities.

I start the day in prayer and try to make sure the first thing I read comes from the Bible (vs. email, articles, social media posts, etc.). I do this while my coffee is brewing.

Then I head to the basement and turn my focus towards work. If I had to narrow each step of my Morning Preview into question-form it would be:

  1. What is your vision & mission?
  2. What are your goals?
  3. What projects do you need to focus on to achieve those goals today?
  4. When will you work on each project today? (Time Blocking)

Then I do what is the equivalent to journal writing.

I update my one-sentence-a-day journal recounting yesterday’s highlights (mostly things I did with my family) in one sentence.

Finally, I write and publish something in my Daily Learning Log.
