Every one of us has a guardian angel that watches over us, guides us, and prays to God in our behalf. What if we could read a daily account of the prayers our guardian angels offer up to the Lord? In this fictional record of the first six days of a young child’s life, we get a little hint of the spiritual support and love that surrounds us from birth to death.

Angel Log: Day 1
To the Holy Lord of Hosts, I am pleased to report for duty.
I have approached this assignment with such eager anticipation. I have been trained well. I greatly desire to be always by this person’s side to light and guard and rule and guide.
But alas, Lord! I come to pray on his behalf most desperately. As you know, he was born with a defect in his heart.
Oh, how his parents fear the loss of this child. So, too, do I Lord! This assignment has only just begun and it seems now to be already coming to an end.
With my first day on duty, I fervently pray that you heal this young baby boy. His parents and family are praying for miracles. My dear brother guardians are appealing on their behalf. Now I, too, offer my request as guardian of this child.
Heal him, Lord! Heal him please!
Angel Log: Day 2
To the Lord, God of Hosts, I offer another day of work and another prayer on behalf of the soul I guard.
To him, Lord, please send down a blessing. I am doing everything I can to comfort the child. I know his spirits are lifting as much as humanly possible.
He loves the dear voice of his parents. It is a beautiful thing to experience. I have very little to do to help him experience their love. Indeed, it is the first experience of love that this boy has had. It is the first sign of your love.
Oh how great the love of parents is! Oh dear Lord, thank you for the sign of their love that will become the model experience that this person has of your love in later years.
I am doing all that I can to heighten the awareness of their presence even when the child is taken away by the doctors. With their comforting voices, too, I am stealing the child’s attention. They love and care for the little baby so fondly. It is amazing how a child brings out the gift of love in all humans.
I bring to you, Holy One, the same request as before. Heal him by your power.
I hope I can be his guide for many years to come, though I am eager to do your will should this assignment be short in the human experience of time.
Angel Log: Day 3
To the Lord, God of Hosts, I offer another prayer.
The child is not improving. I wonder if it should be your will that this little one of yours be taken up to you so soon.
It seems like such a short assignment for me, but if it is to be so then I accept it willingly. I will be at his side for every moment no matter how long or short his life.
I ask, though, once more.
Please heal the child.
Angel Log: Day 4
To the Lord, God of Hosts, I offer on behalf of this child a prayer of Thanksgiving. Or, it may be that the prayer is offered on behalf of the parents.
Today was a great day!
Oh that all the guardian angels could get to experience this day!
Today the child was baptized in your name!
Alleluia! Alleluia!
I know from the other guardians that this is a special gift from you. I know that, even if this child’s life is to be short, my work of guiding him towards you is now elevated to a level that so many guardians wish to have.
Although this baby still lives and is in dire health, he has already died spiritually in you. He has been conformed to your death. He is a new creation! He is your beloved Son! Oh how pleased I am in this momentous occasion.
The parents know of these things, but have a hard time seeing this Baptism as I do. They had the child baptized in the hospital fearing that his heart would fail. This child is yours now. He is claimed for you Christ. Should he live or die tonight, he will be united with you, Lord!
Yet, I know it is their love that desires to keep him here on earth. I feel it too. I feel this desire to learn more about this boy. I hope to see him grow. I hope to help him grow. I hope to see him learn to love others even when it is hard. I hope to help him in the many struggles along the journey towards you.
So, I offer you this prayer of thanksgiving. I also pray on behalf of this child and his parents, that the healing waters of baptism that have cleansed his soul also provide for him a healing miracle of the physical kind as well.
Please, heal him, Lord. Please.
Angel Log: Day 5
To the Lord, God of hosts, I offer a prayer of healing once more.
Things seem to be at the end for the child. Oh what a gift he has been to his parents and to me, his humble guardian. I thank you for these five days as his guardian. Few angels get to witness such love between humans through suffering such as this.
I hoped to spend many years as his guide. There was so much for him to do. So much for him to see and experience.
Through his Baptism he is already directed towards you. He is given the strength of the Spirit to turn away from sin. Oh, how I longed to guide him away from the temptations of the Evil One with the help of your Spirit!
But, alas, it seems that his time here is coming to an end.
I am ready to guide and accompany him on his final journey home to you, O Holy One. It seems too soon, but I trust in your great wisdom.
Still, I plea on his behalf inspired also by the love of his parents one last time.
Lord, Jesus Christ, heal this child in your great mercy!
Angel Log: Day 6
Praise be to you Lord, God of hosts, for you have done great things today.
The child was taken into an emergency surgery. The nurses and doctors acted quickly. The parents were distraught with fear. I was ever by his side through every moment. (If only the parents knew this maybe they would find some comfort!)
The surgery was a complete and miraculous success. The doctors are cautious but optimistic, but I know this is the miracle I have been praying for along with the parents, their family and friends, some of these nurses, and all of their guardian angels.
You have answered our prayers and we are grateful.
Oh, Holy One, I am filled with joy. I love this child as you love him. I am eager of the many days and and years ahead as his guardian.
I will be ever this day and the days that follows at his side.
Lord, thank you. I look forward to tomorrow and to the prayers I get to offer on his behalf.
