A family had a pet parrot who only knew a few words. One of those words was “Jesus.”
For awhile, the parrot responded with the word “Jesus” to almost anything people said to him.
So the kids in the house thought it would be funny to ask him silly questions.
“What’s your name?” they asked the bird.
“Awk. Jesus. Awk,” replied the bird.
The kids giggled at the answer.
One of the boys punched his brother. Then he asked the parrot, “Who did that?”
“Jesus,” said the bird and the boy roared with laughter.
The other brother didn’t like that so much. He said to the bird, “Who hates my brother even more than me?”
“Jesus,” said the bird.
These kinds of mean questions continued for awhile longer. None the questions were very nice.
Then the mother of the family came in and heard what was going on. At first she was angry. “That is quite enough,” she said to them.
Then, she decided to teach the boys a lesson instead.
“Parrot, who created us?” she asked.
“Jesus,” said the bird.
“And who saves us?” she asked.
“Jesus,” he said again.
“And who watches over us when we need help?”
“Jesus.”
“And who forgives us no matter how badly we hurt him?”
“Jesus.”
“Thank you, parrot,” the mother said to the bird.
“Amen,” said the bird.
The Second Commandment: You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
