Like a lot of people, we have our family traditions for Christmas.
On Christmas Eve we make homemade pizzas, watch a Christmas movie, then get the kids ready for bed. For Christmas dinner, we order Chinese take out and eat with our fine China (the only time all year). Our girls love drinking “kids wine” out of fancy glasses.
Growing up, we had other Christmas traditions.
I miss watching the first half of It’s a Wonderful Life on TV while my mom finished her famous stuffed mushrooms for Christmas Eve dinner and my aunt and uncles. (I didn’t see the end of that movie until I was in my 30’s.)
I love reminiscing with my cousins about reading the Nativity story to the family for Grandpa once we were old enough on Christmas night. After opening presents in the gift exchange we would always have an epic wrapping paper fight.
Traditions form a common family bond. They are something we share. We always get to keep them in our memories no matter how our lives have changed.
We may move away, start our own families, or lose loved ones, but the memories of those traditions stay with us forever.
Make some memories.
Merry Christmas.
